At Brookwoods and Deer Run, we believe we have a responsibility to help develop future leaders by encouraging each camper to develop his or her potential. We believe that though challenging wilderness experiences and group interactions, young men and women are able to mature and develop as a whole person as they assume responsibility for their roles in the body of Christ. To this end, we offer a number of programs geared toward leadership development.
The BASIC Program (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) is a four-week experience for 15 and 16 year old boys and girls. During their month at camp, teenagers will participate in co-ed team building activities in an outdoor setting. In addition to their usual camp activities, participants will spend three full days together on ropes course elements, guided by a trained facilitator. They will enjoy an overnight canoeing trip and also face the challenges of a three-day hike in the White Mountain Range. This program is limited to the first 12 boys and first 12 girls who signup. Campers must be in 9th grade and 15 years of age or above for this 4 week program. There is no extra cost for this program which is run at Brookwoods and DeerRun.
The Brookwoods Leadership Development Program (LDP) centers around co-ed groups, ages 17-18, with careful attention given to personal growth and skill development. It is a 16 week program, spread over two summers. Participants are selected for the program based on a competitive application process. Program activities include backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, rappelling, wilderness solo, group discussions and dynamics, Bible study and debriefing. Actual experience, insight, and instruction in all these activities are a major part of the program.
Those interested in either of these programs should contact the camp office at (603) 875-3600.
